Empowering Future Voters: KIPP New Orleans Schools’ Commitment to Civic Engagement

At KIPP New Orleans Schools, education goes beyond the classroom—it’s about empowering our students to become leaders in their communities. Every school year, we proudly host voter registration drives at all three of our high schools, ensuring eligible students are equipped to vote. This consistent effort reflects our long-standing commitment to fostering civic engagement and making sure our students are ready to exercise their right to vote.

Recently featured in an article on NOLA.com, KIPP New Orleans Schools has partnered with local organizations to continue our voter registration efforts this fall. By offering students the opportunity to register at school, we’re ensuring they have the knowledge and confidence to be active participants in democracy.

Preparing Students for Voting
Navigating the voting process is an important milestone for our students as they step into their roles as engaged citizens. Cerise Martin, KIPP New Orleans Schools' Director of Governmental Relations and Community Engagement, shares, "We want to make sure that students are confident and well-prepared for their first time at the polls."

By hosting voter registration events during family nights at each KIPP school and partnering with local organizations to provide transportation for early voting, we are creating a supportive environment where students are empowered and encouraged to participate in our democracy.

The Importance of Civic Engagement
KIPP New Orleans Schools is dedicated to amplifying the voices of our students. With the 2024 elections fast approaching, we are committed to educating our students on the importance of voting—not just in presidential elections, but in local races that shape their communities.

Our voter registration efforts are part of our broader mission to ensure every KIPPster knows how to navigate the voting process, research candidates, and understand the positive impact they can have through civic participation.

Shaping Leaders for Tomorrow
At KIPP New Orleans Schools, we believe that preparing students to vote is an essential part of building the next generation of leaders. Through these efforts, we are helping our students recognize their ability to create change and encouraging them to take an active role in their communities.

As we continue to grow together, initiatives like this reinforce our commitment to providing opportunities for our students to lead both in the classroom and beyond.
